2022 Audio Upgrade

Just picked up my 2022 Eclipse Cross SE. Freaking LOVE it! Only thing I don't love is the audio. I am coming from a 2014 VW CC Executive that had upgraded audio system with 10 speakers and an after market sub I added. I do not want to change the head unit as the one that came with the car is nice looking. I just want to be able to add a sub and maybe upgrade the door speakers.

Does anyone have any info on how to pop the dash to access the wires on the back the HU? I need to tap into the front speakers unless the stock HU has rca outs. If anyone can also tell me how to get the door panels off so I can swap the speakers, that would be great too. I also need to know what size speakers are in the doors and dash? I have the 6 speaker model. The speaker replacement isn't a priority right now, but would be nice. I really need to get a small sub in here ASAP. With the bass turned up, the speakers get muddy. If I turn the bass down, then the audio is clean and crisper but there is no bass. Just need a little kick by adding a small sub.

Thoughts? Ideas? Answers?

Thanks!
Nick

How did this go? Did you do a sub etc? If so, what’d you do ?

I went with the kicker 8” hideaway sub. Fits perfect under passenger seat. Easy install. Took about 2 hours.

Is it wired to the factory 8 inch? How is vibration in the front with that? Can you upload a pic of it installed please?

I tapped into the speakers for the signal. Drilled a hole in the firewall to run the power cable. Vibration isn’t bad at all. It’s definitely not ground pounding bass you get from 1000 watts but it gives enough punch to fill in the missing gaps from the factory system.

I just connected my sub, same way you explained, kicker under the passenger seat, amazing. What a difference. Question though, there’s a bunch of wires that connect under that seat and I noticed one wire that’s not plugged into anything. Any idea what it’s for? Or did you happen to have this as well?

The floor under the seat has weird shelves/step down. With the dimensions of the speaker, it won't fit down in the lowest cut-out section. How did you resolve this? Did you fill that lower area to have a flat space to mount the speaker? Pictures would be great. Thank you.
