In my country those Cruze 1.4T's are deceptively quick for a compact car. I almost purchased one as I always liked them. I had the previous model (pic posted in the previous ride thread) and I loved it. Unfortunately all good things must come to an end and we parted ways on a sour note.
Concerning the EC transmission. I hear you loud and clear. It's a Jatco Xtronic CVT which Mitsubishi calls INVECS 111 CVT.
Once you change the transmission fluid and filter on time (not drain but flush or remove the oil pan), you should be fine.
Would love to see some highway pulls on an EC vs a Cruze. I'm sure the Cruze will come out victorious.
