Had a run up to Stirling yesterday (Sunday) 55 miles or so from home and on the return journey we tried to get the satnav system to work. My wife plugged in the USB cable and we got the usual message not connecting etc., but as we drove along it suddenly connected and up came the map showing our home after typing in home as our destination. However there was no sound instructions and it kept disconnecting and we suspected that the phone connection terminal . Wife held the phone and pushed the connection and sometimes it came back on. After several attempts she put the phone down in the pocket under the dash with the cable still connected, and it came on again along with the voice directions, and stayed on all the way home. We also wondered about the signal connection as the signal strength when it cut out was week. I had tried it in the past with my old phone and though the phone downloaded AA okay the car would not recognise the phone. It did have the Android Lollipop 5 system and according to Android should have worked. My new phone has a much later version 9, so should work okay. If I had been on my own there would be no way of fiddling about with it as my wife had to do, so I'm not very sure the system is up to scratch. Being retired it not a vital requirement, but it would be nice and useful if it worked properly.
Will try it again on our next longish trip and see what happens. I'm not a techie as far as this type of thing is concerned so it just has to work
