I use CarPlay, mostly for satnav via Google Maps. iPhone linked into the EC USB port.

If you have the radio on, CarPlay navigation instructions cause it to stop (ok) but the radio doesn't resume afterwards.

Is there any way to get radio and CarPlay going at the same time?

The only workaround I know of is to stream the radio using an app like TuneIn which does work very nicely from an audio point of view (fades the radio up and down) but uses data, which can be expensive or nonexistent depending on how you are. Also, I prefer the Mitsubishi radio interface as it's a bit less rubbery than CarPlay.

Anyone managed to get it working, and how?

Welcome. Unfortunately CarPlay takes over control of the head unit and all associated functions like audio output. It is not possible to use the radio and CarPlay at the same time. The solution you have found using an app and your phone data is the only option. I can't say that I've ever considered using the radio in my cars since CarPlay arrived. In my EC there aren't even any tuned stations on the radio functions. DAB is out of the question as I live in a rural location and the local stations are lucky if they have FM...

Thanks Zarbs

A shame it has to be that way - it seems to be a software thing, and something that some head units do and others don't, depending on who makes them!

I'll carry on using data for times when I'm sat navving. Or using an Airframe and clipping the phone to the air vents for occasions when I can do without the CarPlay screen!

So exiting new update - I fixed it!

It's a problem with Google Maps.

If you use Waze (very good) or Apple Maps or probably anything else, the car properly lets you combine a DAB, FM or AM radio station, played through the cars radio with antenna, and get voice instructions at the same time - fading both up and down as necessary - EXACTLY as you'd want it to happen.

It appears Google has a bug (?) that locks out the audio after an instruction rather than releasing it like Waze and Apple do.

So hurrah - it can be done! :D

Additionally, Waze fills the screen a lot better than Google Maps does. Seriously - give it a go.

Great to hear. Let's just hope they don't squash any bugs that allow it in a future update. I only use Apple Maps and Sygic for my navigation. Sygic because it is offline mapping that doesn't require data to be online for your navigation. Only problem is they charged a premium to get CarPlay access even after I bought the worldwide premium access. Just waited until they had a % off sale and got some relief.

Not a fan of Waze. And Google products (which Waze is) I refuse to use though I have them loaded just in case nothing else works but that's never happened yet.
