How to Hard reset the multimedia? (AKA - annoying local dealer app)

12912 Views 20 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  Sneakersjmuth
Hello friends,

Just recieved my EC.
The local dealer added a stupid app that coorespondes with the original system but completly messes with the bluetooth and android auto.
I have tried to do a reset to factory from the settings menu but it did not remove it.
is there any other way to get rid of this app?

Thanks.

That's interesting to know that the dealer was able to hack the unit to include their own app.

I have asked the question about hacking the unit on a few tech sites and so far, nothing.

Just get the dealer to remove it.
You could try disconnecting the negative battery terminal to try and hard reset the system. Not sure if that will wipe the storage/saved apps though. Might have to revisit them to have it uninstalled properly.
What is the name of this app?

Yes, I would also love to know more about it.

Can you attach a picture of the screen showing the app please?

I somehow don't think Mitsubishi would approve of a dealer messing with the unit? :nerd:

So, its not an app, actually they somehow added Android to the system that communicates with the original software via android auto, i am attaching a video.
also i have spoken with the dealer (Israel btw) and he said that they can remove it but at a fee :plain: and also becuase its a lease i will need to install it back also with a fee lol.. i guess i will have to accept it at least untill someone can figure out how to remove it..

I would contact Mitsubishi direct and as this appears to be extortion.

It's difficult for me to see what it actually is as it's not in my language, did you have an android phone connected?

Is it a hacked version of android auto? If so, I don't think google would be too happy if they knew.
My Android Auto looks nothing like this. When you connect your phone, the apps you see on the screen are apps installed on your phone, correct? Or are they apps also in the android system in the mitsu?

Im wondering if we all should compare our AA screens. Are dealers/importers doing something different in every location? I will take some pics in a while to share what I see when connecting the phone.

BTW, I have stopped using it as it screws up waze big time. It will just lose GPS or freeze within moments after connecting. However, Google Play will not allow me to install to phone as it says both that my location is not supported nor the phone supported, but I download the APK.
my android auto is the same as this, just standard I think

It's weird as if his phone was connected via usb, then the menu would show "Android Auto" along with DAB etc. etc. and I didn't see that?

Having said that, when the dealer installed screen opens, the top states "Android Auto"

It's like the dealer has hacked the "Android Auto" app or replaced it?

Can anyone translate what the text on the screen states?

Yes, the dealer basically hacked the android auto feature of the car and made it to acess the android system that they have installed.
if i connect my phone via usb the system switches to the regualr android auto app but with a lot of interruption from the hacked android (it somtimes disconnects and switches back).

The text is just regular fetures
-Music
-Calls
-Mitsubishi service
-Navi

this system could be amazing if there wasnt so many crashes and worked with the car's touchpad and steering controls.
Since this is a lease, I will lean on the side of the dealer keeping tabs on the vehicle. The app you specifically showed was a modem. I bet to say a 'phone home' app uses it.
Ask Google if it's OK by them as to what the dealer has done to Android Auto.

Here s a link, go to the bottom of the page and select "SUBMIT BRAND INQUIRY"

It's a bit rough for the dealer wanting to charge you to remove it and add it again later.
Did you manage to solve it? The dealer told me that the basic system that comes with the car has only apple car play and not Android auto and suggested that it'll be better for me to pay extra to get this Android auto hack which doesn't really work apparently. A waste of money and my guess is that the vanilla system would work better for my needs.
To my knowledge Android Auto has not been hacked yet?

I haven't found any hacked version on the web.

Dear llh201017
I am also from Israel, what you mean is no piracy or anything like it, just the original multimedia unit of the vehicle, which is KENWOOD brand (JVC-KENWOOD) does not incorporate Android.
As the advertising offer of COLMOBIL, representative of MITSUBISHI, among other brands here in Israel, shows that you will receive "WAZE" among other things, they were forced to incorporate an ODROID device of type C2 into the vehicle.-
If you do not want this to be put into operation you just have to remove a fuse that does not affect the operation of the rest of the systems at all.
If this is the subject and you really want to do it, just confirm it and I will send details of which fuse you should remove.-
In any case, you can ask your dealer for it, it takes only a few seconds to do so and you will be calm and sure that you have not done anything that could harm the vehicle or its warranty.
In my case they have taken it from me and WITHOUT ADDITIONAL COST, make sure you are going to one of the official COLMOBIL dealers or contacting the GIL CAR company that is in charge of the facilities.-
I hope it is useful for you.-
(Sorry for my English, it's not very good)
