Does anyone know if the emblems that say "Mitsubishi" and "Eclipse Cross" are just fastened by adhesive, or are they riveted? I'd like to remove them but don't want to be left with holes in the hatch.

I would imagine they are just stick on. I've never had n emblem that wasn't just stick on except some bonnet emblems.

Yes, adhered with high strength 3M double sided tape. Heat will assist in softening the adhesive layer for removal but not enough to burn the paint layers irreparably. This is the method used by body repair shops to work on panels requiring reshaping or full painting. Be aware that not all of the adhesive may be removed and you may need to revert to a mechanical means to remove the remainder. Care is the driver in this situation so as not to mar the paint finish. You can also use a high strength wire, like fine piano wire. to remove the actual badge and expose the adhesive layer underneath for heating. Ensure the wire is close to the actual badge and not near the underlying paint surface.

Thanks for the reply! My brother has an attachment for an electric drill with a body eraser that's made for removing the remaining adhesive.
I figured the emblems were just held in place by adhesive. Some of the older cars we shaved were riveted but I imagine that's not common any more.
