If the vehicle has not been driven/charged for 24 hours, at precisely 2pm local time the under-bonnet relays 'click' as if a charging cycle has commenced and a continuing 'beep' sounds near the driver's side. Opening a door causes the 'beep' to stop, although nothing is heard from under the bonnet.

The 'beep' continues for at lear an hour - I haven't wanted to leave it any longer.

I'm obviously worried about draining the auxiliary battery or other damage if I'm away for an extended period.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Rob

Thanks for your response. I did have a timer set early on but have since reset all timers to zero. That said, as far as I can remember, the issue first arose after the first time I used a charging timer. That might be a coincidence.

Somebody else has suggested that the system might be engaging the drive batteries to replenish the auxiliary battery. The fact that it happens at precisely 2pm is interesting.

That i have heard of, but the associated beeping is not known to occur. Check your timers, and if you like do a factory reset on the SDA. You will lose all your historical data though

Thanks again. Although I am a data nerd, the car is only 4 months old so there won't be too much data loss. I'm tempted to take it to the local dealer to get them to do the SDA reset, so everything is is on the record. I must say that, apart from this issue, I'm delighted with the vehicle. Previously, two diesel Pajeros (2005 Platinum and 2011 RX - camper trailer/caravan tractors). Never missed a beat.

Some more info. The issue continues (more below). I haven't done a full SDA reset as I would prefer to do have that done at the dealer's just in case. COVID hit us 2 weeks ago, so the vehicle has been very rarely used, and wasn't used at all for the first week.

Every day, at 40 seconds before 2pm, the under bonnet 'clicking' happens as per a normal charge, beeping starts and the green P light comes on. This continues for precisely 20 minutes, to the second. There is a slight under-bonnet click and the green P light goes off when the beep stops. As before. beeping stops and the P light goes off if a door is opened.

After the first week of COVID when the car had not moved or been charged, I pressed the start button for accessories mode in the morning and my plug-in voltmeter showed 12.3 volts which I assume is the resting voltage of the auxiliary battery.

I'm in touch with the service foreman at the dealership (John Hughes in WA) who has raised the issue internally. We are keeping in touch. When I'm fully recovered from COVID, I'll take the vehicle to the dealer and get them to do the full SDA reset.

Even more info. The issue continues. Full SDA reset not done. For various reasons (post-COVID) the vehicle has not been used much. Today at 1pm, plug-in voltmeter (Start button - Accessories) showed 12.2 volts. Following the 2pm, 20 minute 'beeps' voltmeter showed 13.2 volts. So, is 'vampire/phantom' charging to keep the auxiliary battery topped up when the vehicle is not used much the story (as suggested earlier)? Can this be corroborated in any official Mitsubishi documentation?

SOLVED! RTFM!!

Page 3-22 of the Australian Owners Guide:

"The auxiliary battery is automatically and periodically charged using electrical power stored in the drive battery. A buzzer in cabin sounds while the auxiliary battery is being charged."

Thanks to everyone who commented/thought about it.
